Getting Started

How do I start contributing to PostboxMap?

Simply register for a free account, then use the "Add Postbox" feature to submit postboxes you find. Each submission is reviewed by moderators before being added to the map.

Do I need to be an expert to contribute?

Not at all! Anyone can contribute. You just need to provide the location and, if possible, a photo. Our community and moderators help verify the details.

Is it free to use?

Yes, PostboxMap.co.uk is completely free to use. Registration is free, and all features are available to registered users.

Submissions

How do I submit a postbox?

Click "Add Postbox" in the navigation, fill out the form with the location (you can use the map to pinpoint it), add a photo if available, and submit. Your submission will be reviewed by moderators.

How long does it take for my submission to be approved?

Approval times vary depending on moderator availability, but most submissions are reviewed within a few days. You can check the status in "My Submissions".

What if my submission is rejected?

If your submission is rejected, you'll receive a reason. Common reasons include duplicate entries, incorrect location, or insufficient information. You can resubmit with corrections.

Can I submit corrections to existing postboxes?

Yes! If you notice incorrect information on a postbox, you can submit a correction. Moderators will review and approve valid corrections.

Points & Leaderboard

How do I earn points?

You earn 10 points for each approved postbox submission and 5 points for each approved correction. Points determine your rank on the leaderboard.

What is the leaderboard?

The leaderboard shows the top contributors ranked by their total points. You can filter by time period (all-time, monthly, weekly) and by reign.

How do I become a moderator?

To apply for moderator status, you need at least 10 approved postbox submissions and 5 approved corrections. Then you can apply through the moderator application page.

API & Technical

Is there an API available?

Yes! We provide a public API for developers. You can create API keys in your account settings and use them to access postbox data programmatically.

How do I get an API key?

Log in to your account, go to Profile, then API keys. You can create multiple API keys for different projects.

What data can I access via the API?

The API provides access to approved postboxes, including location, reign, status, and images. See our API documentation for full details.

Account & Privacy

What information is public on my profile?

Your display name, bio (if provided), profile photo, submission count, and rank are visible to other users. Your email address is never public.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Go to Profile → Settings and use "Delete account". We recommend exporting your data first (same page) so you have a copy. Your submissions stay on the map but are shown as "Deleted User".

Can I export my data?

Yes. In Profile → Settings, use "Download my data (JSON)" to get a copy of your profile, submissions, comments, and corrections (GDPR data portability).

How do I change my password?

Go to Settings in your account, then navigate to the Security section where you can change your password.
