I believe this to be a Type F postbox due to the heavy rusting around the base. I understand that Type G was introduced to eliminate the rusting and were made from cast iron.

That aside, the information I found said that Type F was introduced in 1968 and Type G in 1974. If that was the case, why is the cipher GR?

Manufacturer was W T Allen.
