How to Submit a Postbox
Step-by-step guide to adding a new postbox to the map, from location to photo and moderation.
Before you start
You need to be logged in to submit a postbox. If you don't have an account, register for free. Submissions are reviewed by moderators before they appear on the map.
Open the Add Postbox form
Go to Add Postbox from the navigation. The form is multi-step: first you set the location, then you enter details (name, reign, type, etc.), and finally you can add a photo.
Step 1: Location
Use the map to pinpoint the postbox. You can click on the map or use your device's location. You can also enter an OS grid reference or town/county if you know them. The location (latitude and longitude) is required.
Step 2: Details
Enter a short name or description (e.g. "High Street pillar box"). Select the reign (royal cypher) from the dropdown: this is the monarch in reign when the box was made (Victoria, Edward VII, George V, etc.). Select the form (Pillar, Wall, Lamp, Ludlow, Parcel, or Business box). You can optionally add a design variant (subtype) such as "Type K", "Penfold", "Dual aperture", or "Coffin-style surround" (for wall boxes), and a manufacturer. Mark whether the box is in service. Optional fields include reg no, grid reference, town, county, and notes.
Step 3: Photo
A photo is optional but recommended. It helps moderators verify the postbox and helps others identify similar boxes. Upload a clear, well-lit image. Your progress is saved in the browser so you can continue later.
After submitting
Your submission is sent to the backend and created as pending. Moderators will review it and either approve or reject it. You can track status in My Submissions. When approved, you earn points based on the postbox's royal cypher and type (rarer = more points); see Scoring & Ranks for the full table. The postbox then appears on the map.
