Understanding the Map

How to use the main map, filters, and postbox detail pages.

Viewing the map

The main map at Map shows all approved postboxes. It uses clustering: at lower zoom levels you see clusters of markers; zoom in to see individual postboxes. The map loads postboxes for the visible area and updates as you pan or zoom.

Filters

You can filter by reign (e.g. Queen Elizabeth II, King George V), by design variant (subtype), and by manufacturer. Use the filter controls on the map page to narrow the results. Only postboxes matching your filters are shown.

Clicking a postbox

Click a postbox marker to see a summary. You can then open the full postbox page to view photos, comments, location details, reign, type, and whether it's in service. From the postbox page you can submit corrections, add comments (if logged in), or add more photos.

Browsing by reign, form or town

The Postboxes page lets you browse postboxes by reign (e.g. Queen Elizabeth II, Victoria) or by form (pillar, wall, lamp, etc.). You can also explore by town. Use these index pages to find postboxes in a category or area.

Search and list

Use Search to find postboxes by location, name, reign, or other criteria. The Leaderboard shows top contributors by points. Statistics and Trends give you an overview of how the map is growing.
